It's getting nearer

As it draws nearer the requests for information on the 2012 'event' grow ever more urgent. I suppose that may be to do with the multitude of conflicting stories of what will or will not happen, plus the (sometimes deliberate) manipulation of dates to make other prophecies 'fit the bill'.

For example, some sources are touting the Mayan calendar date as also being the time of the end of the Age of Kali. Unfortunately, the date for this latter moment in time is still some way off in the future.

So, do I know what's going to happen on Dec 21st 2012? Er.... no!

What I do know is that if this event is something you are interested in or causes you concern, then I suggest you take the time to research the source materials rather than 'listening' to popular notions that may just be pandering to 'pulp press economics'.

One of the best modern books I have read recently on the subject is 'The Mystery of 2012 - predictions, prophecies & possibilities' published by Sounds True. This book is a magnificent collection of writers from all walks of life, sharing their expertise that ranges from economics, religion, prophecy, human evolution and science. ISBN 978-1-59179-611-4; worth the read.

What about me, after all this is my blog and I guess I should have some sort of opinion.

In my view the understanding of 2012 needs to be broken down into two parts; the first is that of the Earth, and all life upon it, and the second is Spirit. You see, unlike many I don't regard spirit as having a beneficial influence upon 'Gaia' - the living Earth.

I accept Lovelock's interpretation of a living Earth; when I first read the Gaia Hypothesis way back when it resonated instantly with how I personally felt about the world. The idea of the closed system of Gaia constantly renewing itself in the face a common universal entropy was beautiful beyond words; my love and respect for this world just deepened.

However, we have to accept that Gaia goes through transitions that have nothing to do with humans, it is only our arrogance and fear that makes us feel important to Her. The Earth has passed the conjunction with the Galactic core roughly 174.5 million times in its 4.5 billion year history (using UK 'billion'). Humans were not about for almost all of those transitions, so why do we suddenly think this is a 'human spirit event'. It's not, if it is anything then it is a Gaia event.

In fact, we've been lined up with the galactic centre since the mid '80s because its a great big wide aperture and the lining up on 21st Dec 2012 is more of a human 'eye illusion' thing. But I digress!

So,Mother Earth is transiting again through the galactic plane and past the dark matter void that lines up with the core. As she has survived 174.5 million of these passes to date I shall not worry too much for her well being. She's a tough old bird that has been hammered throughout her life by comets, meteorites and planetoids; and still managed to look beautiful in the morning.

So what does change?

Well, life can change; life on Earth is the most fragile part of her makeup, whether it was the dinosaurs or us, we are all capable of succumbing to a massive life threatening event. But... the Earth goes on, she adapts, maybe evolves into something else. That is Gaia and its what she's good at.

All life on Earth is subject to her will, it all comes from her and returns back in the cycle of entropy. Within that cycle She is content upon her great journey through this Universe.

The fly in the ointment is humanity, this irritating mammal has been possessed by spirit for far too long. So long, in fact, that it has forgotten its place in the grand scheme; it has developed an importance that is beyond its own physical capability. Mankind became arrogant, and in its arrogance it has sought equal status with Mother Earth in the managing of her resources. man has become a virus infecting its host; losing its symbiotic relationship to become nothing more than a parasite.

Humanity is also fearful; fear of loss, loss of food, shelter, life, and as a result tries to explain everything in relationship to itself as the highest ideal on Earth. We are truly the 'fallen ones', and having forgotten our roots we fear everything that can touch our mortality.

Yet Gaia remembers something that we only pay lip service to, that we are immortal beings; beings that invaded her 'space' and took upon themselves the physical mantle of being human. At first it was great, spirit-being-human knew exactly what it was all about. But now, now we have lost the idea and the truth; we make up fairy tales and fantasy because the truth is too simple to comprehend.

We are immortal... and Gaia doesn't give a crap about us.

She knows we come back time after time to steal more bodies in our deranged game of being human. She knows because they are her bodies, meant for a different way of living; she made them to be the Gardeners of her world, but we turned them into destroyers. Us, spirit; that immortal essence that cannot reproduce or decay, jealous of the one being who can. For in Gaia is the total expression of creativity that is so perfect it beats the decay of the Universe itself.

So we sit and brood about what cataclysm lies ahead whilst Gaia sails serenely through her cycle knowing that should mankind be destroyed it will just come back, so best not worry about it. And she sings Her song through space, resonating with Her love the Sun and on to her core Mother at the heart of the galaxy. A song we hear and ignore in our mental decay.

So bring on the day, whether it be a sun filled dawn or the apocalypse makes no difference because we will survive it even if our bodies don't; and we will be back.
