Till Death us do part

When I was a young man and still in training, a tutor of some standing imparted a secret to me; it is one I have never forgotten purely because it is fearful in its import.

Whilst I cannot tell you exactly what was said without infringing my Oath, I can reveal the gist of that transmission; and in doing so perhaps stir up the memories of some older souls who may still be around from those days.

What was said went along these lines -
Not everyone that dies can look forward to existential life or reincarnation. On the whole spirit merely returns to a collective 'pool' where identity and purpose are lost, and it is a smaller percentage who achieve 'immortality'.

Being young at the time I took little notice, however, as the years roll by we become more aware of the encroaching stillness of death and attention is diverted to cogitations upon the subject. After all, my tutor didn't reveal how to become one of the select few!

If we accept this view for a moment and reread some of the historical alchemical works, there is a light that begins to dawn that wasn't really hidden at all. Their search for everlasting life was not founded in remaining here, but in what was to follow. In fact, many other teachers have alluded to the idea that not all spirit retains identity and existence.

Before I progress I would say that the manifestation of Spirit within a body imbues it with 'intelligence' and access to the outer and inner realms. The reason for mentioning it here will become apparent soon enough.

A dear friend of mine recently commented on a pagan who whilst claiming shamanic talents also had a fear of death. My friend was surprised that such an individual (given their training) would have a fear of no life beyond this. I have to say, it made me think.

There is a considerable volume of people who have experienced a 'near death experience', of those, a very small percentage really did die (as opposed to being close to it) and claim to have seen something beyond or to have felt that they still existed. However, there is a larger number of people who have 'died' and come back who experienced nothing at all; thus leaving us in a position of simply choosing who to believe.

In my life I have travelled between worlds and felt the very pulse of our Earth. Yet none of it proves that I will exist beyond death because, as I said earlier, we can all do those things whilst connected to our physical shells. We are granted a gift, a chance; but what we do with it is our choice.

In fact, it all could be an illusion generated by our Ego-Spirit conjunction. Interestingly, crazy people never accept that they are crazy and never fear going crazy, how so anyone with an 'absolute' belief. Desire often takes the place of belief, leading us to a false understanding of who and what we are.

The story I was told may not be true, after all, many religions have a selection committee of some sort that manages the 'chosen few'. After all, many of you will lay claim to 'knowing' you have lived before and if that is true, you must be able to live again. Well, there are a lot of people who don't have past life experiences, and karma shows us it is possible to 'degrade' oneself back into nothingness.

Obviously, there is much more to this subject than meets the eye, but at the end of the day, Death comes to us all and the real truth is held by those who take that journey.
